✨ Why This Camera

Although the FZ55 is a currently sold, affordable compact, its small sensor gives it the sought-after digital compact character: 16 MP, 5x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch screen and Full HD video.

• 🔍 16 MP CMOS sensor (1/2.3")
• 🎯 5x optical zoom, 28–140mm equivalent
• 🔎 f/3.9–6.3 aperture range
• 🖼️ 2.7-inch LCD screen (230,000 dots)
• 🎬 1080p Full HD video recording (1920x1080)
• 😊 Face and smile detection
• 🌈 ISO 100–3200
• 💾 SD / SDHC / SDXC card support (up to 512GB)
• 🔋 Rechargeable Li-ion battery (LB-012)
• 🎒 Pocket-friendly, lightweight compact body (approx. 106 g)

The 5x zoom starting from a 28mm wide angle gives you flexibility in use: 28mm is comfortable for architecture and group shots, while 140mm brings distant details closer. The LB-012 battery can be charged directly via USB, making everyday use practical — just plug in the cable and charge, no need for a separate charger.

The FZ55's small 1/2.3-inch sensor and distinctive image-processing character differ from the smooth image of modern mirrorless cameras, naturally producing that familiar digicam/Y2K look that comes through with flash. 1080p Full HD video is a fun bonus for those who want to bring this nostalgic digital aesthetic to moving footage as well.

👀 Who It's For, Where to Use It

A natural choice for those who want to try the digital compact look without investing in expensive vintage cameras, content creators, anyone looking for a different character than their phone camera, and those who want a backup/everyday carry camera. Since it's a currently produced model, finding spare parts, batteries and accessories is also easy.

It delivers characterful shots for café outings, festivals and concerts, nights out, birthday parties, travel and street photography. Its light, pocket-friendly body fits easily into even the smallest bag, so carrying it around is never a hassle.

🔥 The RetroCameraLand Take

The FZ55's real strength is accessibility. While the sought-after digital compact aesthetic is usually found in models that stopped production years ago and now command sky-high prices, the FZ55 offers an alternative that's still in production, affordably priced and easy to find parts for. It's a risk-free entry point for anyone curious about the "digicam" look.

16 MP, 5x zoom and Full HD video make for a well-balanced package in the compact category. The 1/2.3-inch sensor might be considered small by modern standards, but it's exactly this combination of small sensor and compact body that naturally produces the digital compact character people are after today. This isn't an expensive collector's piece — it's an accessible point-and-shoot you won't hesitate to use every day, delivering characterful shots.
