Canon Powershot ELPH 300 HS

In 2011, Canon took the idea of a "slim yet capable" compact to new heights with the ELPH 300 HS. Into a finger-thin metal body, it packed a 12-megapixel HS CMOS sensor, 5x optical zoom, and 1080p Full HD video. Sold in Europe under the name IXUS 220 HS, this model became one of the era's most beloved "everyday" cameras thanks to its pocketable size and clean design.

✨ Why This Camera

The ELPH 300 HS packs a powerful technical package into a slim body:

• 🔍 12.1 MP HS CMOS sensor — improved low-light performance
• 🔭 5x optical zoom (24-120mm equivalent wide angle)
• 🎬 1080p Full HD video recording
• ⚡ DIGIC 4 image processor (HS System)
• 📺 2.7-inch LCD screen
• 📐 Pocketable, ultra-slim metal body
• 😊 Face detection and smart scene modes
• 💾 SD / SDHC / SDXC card support

The zoom starting from a 24mm wide angle makes landscape and group shots effortless. Thanks to the HS System, you get cleaner results in dim conditions compared to other compacts.

👀 Who It's For, Where to Use It

Ideal for anyone looking for a lightweight camera to carry in their bag or pocket every day, those who want to take "real" photos instead of using their phone, and fans of the retro digital movement. Practical and reliable for travel, everyday life, cafés, nights out, and street photography.

With a zoom range that starts wide, you can capture both landscapes and details with a single camera.

🔥 RetroCameraLand's Take

The ELPH 300 HS is one of the most mature examples of Canon's compact camera legacy. With its clean design, reliable auto modes, and Full HD video, it's perfectly suited to the "grab-and-shoot" mindset. It delivers a clean yet characterful image that's especially sought after in today's "digicam" movement.

Unlike classic CCDs, the HS CMOS sensor performs cleaner in low light, while still preserving that nostalgic digital texture of the compact class. A strong choice for both everyday use and as a gift.
