Olympus Tough TG-820 Waterproof

In 2012, Olympus redefined what a "take-it-anywhere" digital camera could be with the Tough TG-820. This red-bodied model packed a 12-megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor, 5x optical zoom and 1080p Full HD video recording into a compact build sealed against water, shock, crush and cold. A true adventure digital, built for a grab-and-go rhythm in the rain, by the sea or in the snow without ever worrying it might break.

✨ Why This Camera

The TG-820 offers a well-balanced package in the rugged class: a durable body, 12 MP BSI-CMOS sensor, 5x optical zoom, Full HD video and a compact size suited for everyday use.

• 📷 12 MP BSI-CMOS sensor (1/2.3")
• 🎯 5x optical zoom, 28–140mm equivalent
• 🔍 f/3.9–5.9 aperture range
• 🌊 Waterproof to ~10m depth
• 💥 Shockproof from drops of ~2m
• ⚖️ Crushproof up to ~100kg of pressure
• ❄️ Freezeproof down to -10°C
• 🎬 Full HD 1080p video recording
• 🖥️ 3.0-inch LCD screen (~1,030,000 dots)
• 🌡️ ISO 100–6400
• 💾 SD / SDHC / SDXC card support
• 🔋 LI-50B rechargeable battery

The 5x zoom starting from a 28mm wide angle gives you flexibility in use: 28mm is comfortable for landscapes and group shots, while 140mm brings distant details closer. What really sets it apart, though, is its toughness: thanks to the sealed body, taking the camera to the water's edge, out in the rain or into a dusty environment isn't a risk, it's just how you use it.

The 12 MP BSI-CMOS sensor and TruePic VI processor combine the fast response times and low-light recovery typical of 2012-era cameras. Sensor-shift image stabilization delivers cleaner handheld shots, while 1080p Full HD video is a fun bonus for anyone wanting to capture travel and outdoor moments in motion.

👀 Who It's For, Where to Use It

The natural choice for hiking, camping, the beach and poolside, skiing and winter trips — the kind of settings where you'd normally hesitate to bring a regular camera. From underwater shots to rainy street photography, it's a reassuring companion for anyone who needs durability.

It also works comfortably at festivals, concerts and in everyday city life. Its compact body fits easily into a bag or a large pocket, making it a practical camera for anyone who wants to grab it and capture the moment without missing a beat.

🔥 The RetroCameraLand Take

The real strength of the TG-820 is combining "toughness" with "compact practicality" in a single body. While most compact cameras stay confined to sheltered settings, this model is sealed against water, shock and cold, completely expanding where it can go. The red body matches that energetic, outdoor spirit perfectly.

The 12 MP BSI-CMOS sensor, 5x zoom and sensor-shift stabilization come together into an enjoyable, well-rounded package in the rugged category. 1080p Full HD video and a waterproof build make this not just a camera, but a reliable companion you can take along on any adventure. A fun Tough classic for everyday use and for collectors alike.
