Nikon Coolpix S3100

In 2011, Nikon released an adorable compact that continued the slim, stylish line of its "S (Style)" series: the COOLPIX S3100. Packed into its ultra-slim body were a 14-megapixel CCD sensor, a 5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens, and Nikon's vibrant color character, plus 720p HD video recording. It's grab-and-go easy, with vivid colors and a reliable auto mode. Today it delivers that "late Y2K / clean digital" aesthetic everyone's chasing — vivid, contrasty colors, gentle CCD texture, and character you won't find on modern phones — all in a pocket-friendly, stylish body.

✨ Why This Camera

The S3100 offers a well-balanced package in a slim body: a 14 MP CCD sensor, 5x Zoom-NIKKOR, 720p HD video, and pocket-friendly, stylish design.

• 🔍 14.0 MP CCD sensor (1/2.3")
• 🎯 5x Zoom-NIKKOR, 26–130mm equivalent lens
• 🔎 f/3.2–6.5 aperture range
• 📺 2.7" TFT LCD screen (230,000 dots)
• 🎬 720p HD video recording (1280×720, 30 fps)
• 🌙 ISO 80–3200
• 🙂 Face detection and smart portrait mode + macro
• 🛡️ Electronic vibration reduction (VR)
• 💾 SD / SDHC / SDXC card support
• 🔋 Nikon EN-EL19 rechargeable Li-ion battery
• 💎 Ultra-slim body — clean digital / late Y2K aesthetic

The first thing that stands out about the S3100 is its body: ultra-slim and lightweight, so you can always keep it with you in your pocket or a small bag. The 5x Zoom-NIKKOR starts at a 26mm wide angle, giving you room to breathe in city and friend shots, while the 130mm telephoto end brings portraits and details in close. Its auto mode and face detection make for safe, easy shooting for beginners.

The real character shows up in the colors. Nikon's color processing renders skies, city lights, and skin tones in a vivid, contrasty, "clean digital" look. The gentle grain the 14 MP CCD sensor produces at mid-range ISO adds a nostalgic feel in place of the sterile look of phone cameras. The 720p HD video carries this aesthetic over into motion without any filters applied.

👀 Who It's For, and Where

A natural choice for anyone wanting a slim, stylish everyday camera, content creators looking for clean, bright shots for social media, those who value Nikon's color character, and collectors wanting a pocket-friendly example of the S series. It's a joy to use and growing rarer by the day in this condition.

It delivers vivid, characterful shots for everyday and social moments, city and travel notes, nights out, birthdays, and family gatherings. Thanks to its slim body, it's always on hand — a practical everyday camera for stories and reels content.

🔥 RetroCameraLand's Take

The S3100 is one of those cameras made for people who say "I want it in my pocket at all times." Its ultra-slim body, 5x Zoom-NIKKOR, and vibrant Nikon colors make it one of the easiest S series models to recommend. The CCD sensor naturally delivers that nostalgic digital texture everyone's after today.

The CCD character shines through here too: vivid, contrasty colors and that familiar digital pop that comes with the flash. Clean, fully working S3100 units are becoming increasingly scarce on the market, which makes it both a camera you can use with total peace of mind and one that holds its value as a collector's piece. Tested and verified, ready to shoot with its original battery and charger.
